Bury travel to Stanley in bid to secure quarter-final Trophy place
BURY will look to secure a place in the quarter-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy when they travel to face League One side Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium tonight.
The Shakers go into the game off the back of two consecutive league victories, most recently securing three points away at Yeovil on Saturday thanks to Nicky Maynard’s goal midway through first half.
Ryan Lowe’s side edged past fellow League Two promotion hopefuls Mansfield in the previous round of the competition after Dominic Telford’s first half strike proved decisive in Nottinghamshire.
Their opponents caused one of the upsets of the weekend on Saturday, beating Championship strugglers Ipswich Town 1-0 at home in the third round of the FA Cup.
However, John Coleman’s side had struggled in recent games prior to that result, shipping seven goals in two league defeats to Peterborough United and Bradford City respectively.
Stanley also edged past League Two leaders Lincoln at home in the previous round of the competition, winning 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
This is the first meeting between the two sides since they met in the first round of this competition in 2015/16, where Bury advanced to the second round with a 2-1 away win.
Victory for Ryan Lowe’s men would see them through to the quarter-final stage for the first time since their last promotion campaign in 2014/15, where they were defeated by Tranmere Rovers 2-1 at Gigg Lane.
