A FUGITIVE murderer has been recaptured at Manchester Town Hall.

Terence Ollerton was jailed for a ‘brutal, senseless and motiveless attack’ in 2000.

He was released on licence on December 10 last year, but the killer disappeared on January 2.

Ollerton breached the terms of his licence by failing to reside at an approved address.

Members of the public were warned not to approach him.

Ollerton has now been arrested after officers were alerted and scrambled to the town hall in Albert Square.

It is believed police had a call from the probation service.

Ollerton, 50, was jailed after he and his girlfriend Julie Gallagher beat their victim Lynne Dowling unconscious, before dragging her into an alleyway.

She was kicked and stamped on as one of them shouted: “Die, you bitch”.

Miss Dowling was left with 57 different injuries and could only be identified by a tattoo and fingerprints.

At Manchester Crown Court, Gallagher and Ollerton were convicted of murder on what Judge Simon Fawcus described as ‘overwhelming’ evidence.

The judge added: ‘’It was a brutal, senseless and almost motiveless killing of a young woman whose only failing was that she was as drunk as you were that evening.’’

Miss Dowling’s body was found in a pool of blood in the alleyway near the house she had been living in Upper Dicconson Street, Wigan, in March 2000.

The court was told she was killed because she wanted a relationship with Ollerton.

Ollerton and Gallagher had also been living in the house, and were seen laughing and joking after beating her unconscious.

In the alleyway she was savagely kicked ‘like a football,’ the court heard.

She was rushed to hospital, but tragically died four hours later.

Ollerton, who was last known to be living in Collyhurst, will now be recalled to prison for breaching his licence conditions.
