Hunt for thugs after hammer attack

-

A MAN was left with a fractured skull after being attacked with a hammer in his own home.

Two men armed with a hammer forced their way into a house in Saddleback Road, Norley Hall, in Wigan at around 7pm on Monday, December 10.

A woman in her 50s answered the front door before her husband was viciously assaulted with the weapon.

The man, also in his 50s, suffered a fractured skull as well as injuries to his knee.

He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The pair of thugs then fled in the direction of City Road.

Officers have now released images of two men they want to speak to in connection with the attack.

Police say the offenders were wearing dark clothes and black hats which covered their ears.

Detective Constable Andrew Partington, from GMP’s Wigan borough, said: “This was an awful incident where a couple were threatened in their own home. Our thoughts remain with them while they recover from this ordeal.

“We are desperate to identify the men pictured and I would urge anyone who recognises them to please call police.

“I’d also speak directly to the men themselves: If this is you then please make contact with officers at the earliest opportunity.”

Anyone with any information should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 1748 of 10 December 2018.
