Oldham owner is Wild about boss Pete

-

OLDHAM Athletic look set to offer Pete Wild the manager’s job on a permanent deal.

The caretaker boss led the Latics to a stunning FA Cup third round giantkilling over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

It was his third straight win after taking over from the sacked Frankie Bunn, with victories over Port Vale and Notts County in League Two also in the bag.

His side now face Doncaster in the fourth round.

Now Wild, who was youth team coach before being asked to step up to the first team and is a lifelong Latics fan, is favourite to be handed the reins full time by chairman Abdallah Lemsagam.

“I’m going to have a talk with him and we will take the best decision for the club,” said the owner.

“If he’s ready to take charge of the team in the fourth round, we’re ready for it – he’s already shown anything is possible.”

The FA Cup run will provide a welcome boost to Oldham’s coffers.

The club has struggled financially in recent months, but Lemsagam says Sunday’s win was about more than cash. He said: “This is one of my best moments in football, of course.

‘I’ve been involved in many big deals, but I’m used to losing money now!

“It’s cost me lot more than I thought to run the club – but this makes up for everything.

“The last year has been more than tough.

“But when you win a game like that, it’s not about money. Pride doesn’t cost you money.

“This is something special – money cannot buy you this feeling.”
