Youngster set to snub Blues and sign new Benfica deal

- By DANIEL MURPHY

CITY have missed out on Benfica starlet Tiago Dantas, according to reports.

The 18-year-old only has six months left to run on his current deal with the Lisbon club and fuelled speculation after it was reported that he had travelled to Manchester with his agent ahead of a proposed move.

However, Record have reported that the Portugal U19 international has instead decided to extend his stay at the Stadium of Light by renewing his contract.

The attacking midfielder has yet to make his debut for Benfica’s first XI but has been a regular in the B team since making his debut in August last year.

From then on he has flourished in the side and is considered by many to be Benfica’s best academy graduate in years.

City boss Pep Guardiola may be looking to bring more exciting creative prospects to Manchester after the loss of the Brahim Diaz to Real Madrid.

The Spain U21 international joined Los Blancos on a six-and-a-half year deal this month.

The midfielder joined City from Malaga when he was 14 and left for a fee of £15m, which could rise to £22.5m through add-ons in a deal which also includes a 15 per cent sell on clause.

Diaz may not be the only departure from the Etihad this month, as defender Eliaquim Mangala also looks set to leave.

According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, the French centre-back is attracting interest from Internazionale and Turkish giants Galatasaray.
