It’s home, James for Sale star

- By CARI MORRIS

SAM James feels right at home at Sale.

The Wilmslow-born 24-year-old recently made his 100th appearance for the Sharks, having joined the team in 2012.

During that time he has become a fan favourite due to his commitment to the squad – and the fact that he is viewed as a homegrown talent.

“I’m getting old,” James told M.E.N. Sport. “I feel like this place is home now, I know every inch of the place, and it’s nice to have come through with a few of the lads that I’ve known and grown up with.

“As well, it makes me feel more comfortable around the place. It allows me to show the other guys the ropes now and help them come through.”

Although James has had his fair share of appearances, the excitement of the game is still evident as he looks forward to tomorrow’s European Championship Cup game against Connacht.

“I’m massively looking forward to playing this weekend – I’ve not played out in Ireland too many times so you look forward to it at any point,” he said. The last time the two teams faced each other in October, Sale claimed a convincing 34-13 victory at the AJ Bell, and they head into tomorrow’s match top of Group Three with three wins from four matches.

“Being able to top our group, it kind of puts us into a good stead, getting a home quarter-final is really exciting,” said James. “With their home form Connacht will be confident, but again we are focusing on ourselves. We’ve done well with that over the past couple of weeks.”
