‘Supercar’ crashes on test
DRIVER TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER DRAMA AT UNIVERSITY’S MOTORSPORT CENTRE
THIS is the moment a ‘supercar’ crashed on a test run at Bolton University.
The drama unfolded outside the multi-million pound National Centre for Motorsport Engineering. The car drives in a straight line before spinning out of control and clipping a kerb
Footage shows the dark-coloured sports vehicle accelerating towards the university building, before it suddenly veers off the track and into a wall.
Debris and smoke can be seen coming from the car as onlookers run towards it.
The University of Bolton was yet to confirm if the driver was a student or staff member, but bosses have said he suffered only minor injuries.
The man, who was in his 30s according to the ambulance service, was taken to Salford Royal Hospital.
A spokesman for the university said in a statement: “On the morning of February 5 at approximately 10.10am, a motor vehicle incident happened just outside the National Centre for Motorsport Engineering. First and foremost, we are happy to report that the driver has only sustained minor injuries. However, they were taken to hospital to be checked over. The driver lost control during a standard road test.”
The North West Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 10.22am to Wellington Street in Bolton to reports of an RTC. A male patient in his mid 30s was taken to Salford Royal. The hospital was told the patient was being brought in.”
According to the University of Bolton’s website, the National Centre for Motorsport Engineering (NCME) is a £13m development ‘designed to house the next step in the evolution of motorsport education in the UK.’
