CLOSE friends and family paid their respects to Dianne Oxberry at a private funeral service.

The much-loved BBC North West Tonight presenter died aged 51 from ovarian cancer in the Christie Hospital on January 10.

Her funeral took place at St Mary Magdalene Church near the home in Sale she shared with her husband Ian Hindle and their two young children.

BBC North West shared a short clip of the funeral on its Facebook page this afternoon alongside the message: “Just to let you all know, the funeral for our much-loved friend and colleague Dianne Oxberry took place this afternoon in Sale, Greater Manchester.

“It was a private service attended by close friends and family. Our thoughts are with Dianne’s family.”

During the film a poignant message on a floral tribute can be seen.

It reads: “Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave and impossible to forget. To my beautiful friend Dianne, I miss you more than you can ever imagine. Sleep peacefully.”

Last month camera operator husband Ian launched a crowdfunding campaign to set up a charity in her memory. It has so far raised £36,000. Writing on the page, Ian said: “Dianne died in early January after a very short battle with ovarian cancer.

“The tragic impact was felt not only by her family and friends, but also by the wider public whose lives she touched across more than 20 years’ TV and radio presenting.

“The money raised will be used to help families and individuals who have, or are suffering from, this aggressive disease.

“The aim is also to raise awareness about ovarian cancer and its aftereffects, particularly where families have suffered sudden loss... which can often be the case with this appalling disease.”
