Family’s terror as man headbutts way into house

- By DAVID KING

A ‘SWEATING and paranoid’ man was detained by police after butting his way into a house and going on a destructive ‘rampage.’

The incident occurred at a property on Lauderdale Crescent, Longsight, Manchester, while the occupant and her two children were inside.

The family were forced to barricade themselves in one of the bedrooms for safety.

Pc John Ward, of GMP Moss Side, attended the scene. He said: “It originally started on Sparrow Street. We had reports that a man was seen in gardens. He then ran down the street and entered the property on Lauderdale Crescent.

“He headbutted the patio doors through and went on a rampage in the property.

“He had ripped wardrobes around and pulled up a double bed. When we entered the room, he was using the mattress as a shield.

Pc Ward said that the man was acting strangely. He was ‘paranoid and sweating’ and believed that people were after him.

“He didn’t believe that we were the police.

“After 20 minutes we were getting nowhere. He kept going into his waistband and we believed he may have had a weapon.

“We eventually had to use a Taser and we managed to detain him.

“He was very strong. It was surprising. It took four of us to keep him down”.

The family were escorted to safety and were unharmed by the incident.

The man was then taken to hospital where he received medical treatment.
