CITY Agueroooo! is always Kompany’s goal hero

- By JOSH CHALLIES

CITY captain Vincent Kompany has admitted that team-mate Sergio Aguero is his hero for his unforgettable Premier League title-winning goal against QPR.

The Argentine striker scored in the final minute of the season against QPR to seal City’s first Premier League title in 2012, beating United to the crown.

Kompany has been a staple of City’s success for the last decade, establishing himself as a club legend in his own right, but admitted the defining moment of his career came on that famous day in May. “You can’t look past it, you can’t look around it. That’s the moment that defines this club,” he said.

“A lot of the players coming through today and in this environment have to thank probably that squad and Kun in particular for that goal.

“To me he’s a hero and I play with him every day.”

The Belgium defender had his own iconic moment during the triumph that season, scoring a crucial winning goal in the derby against United, although he added that City had almost given up hope on lifting the title that year. “Defending gives me more pleasure, definitely.

“If I can be on the end of a good tackle from a striker then my day, my week probably, is a happy week.

“The two things those goals have in common, I have to say, I remember it was confusion after the goals.

“When I scored against United and when Kun scored against QPR, it wasn’t just happiness, it wasn’t just sadness, it was confusing. “What’s happening? We haven’t been in this position before, we shouldn’t be in this position. “United were eight points ahead of us, we gave up when we lost to Arsenal away, and then we had this team mentality where we were fighting in training all the time. “That’s the characters we had, it brought the best out of us for the last six games. But confusion is all I remember from those two moments.” just
