Tuchel suffers further setback with Cavani injury

-

Now the problems are mounting on the pitch as well.

The injury bulletin on Neymar, scorer of 20 goals already this season, has ruled him out for 10 weeks, meaning he’ll miss both legs against United.

And Edinson Cavani is out after he picked up an injury on Saturday night.

There are problems in midfield, as well. Adrien Rabiot’s decision not to sign a new contract ahead of his deal expiring in the summer has seen him ostracised and that has looked an even costlier decision since Marco Veratti’s recent injury problems, which could force him out against United as well.

PSG have been so short of bodies in central midfield recently they’ve been playing Dani Alves there. Tuchel wanted at least two central midfielders in January, but had to settle for the signing of Leandro Paredes.

Since these two teams were pitted together in the last 16 the pendulum has slowly swung United’s way.

A rousing victory over a European heavyweight will put the club back amongst the elite, wiping away those memories over a tepid exit to Sevilla last season.

Suddenly it’s PSG who look vulnerable to United, rather than the other way around.

This is the type of European fixture Solskjaer will believe United, at their best, should be winning. Now he has the chance to show he is getting United back to their best. EDINSON Cavani’s entourage have confirmed he has been ruled out of the Champions League clash against United tomorrow.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward was forced off just after scoring a penalty in the 42nd minute of the French side’s win against Bordeaux in Ligue 1 and reports by French outlet RMC claim he will miss the game at Old Trafford this week. PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel also spoke about the Uruguay international being unlikely to play.

“He has undergone exams and there will be more tests here at the training centre. My feeling is that it will be very difficult for him to feature in Manchester,” Tuchel said.

“In any case, we must wait a bit more as the exams are still ongoing. I think that the news will not be very good. I still have a little hope, but the first tests were not good.

“I am worried, but only because we are missing key players. In matches like these, decisive Champions League games, you absolutely need your key men as they are experienced in handling pressure.”
