Appeal to fix baths windows

-

VICTORIA Baths has launched a crowdfunding appeal to restore stained glass windows inside the historic building.

It aims to bring the site back to its original magnificence by restoring one of the windows at the gable end of the former males’ second class pool.

It will also make the space weather and water-tight for years to come.

The campaign needs £10,000 for the work to transform the ‘windmill window’, which stands at six metres tall and includes hundreds of panes of different coloured and textured stained glass.

The lead strips between the panes have deteriorated, the wooden frame is rotten and there are broken and missing panes which need replacing.

Amy Lewis, Trustee of Victoria Baths Trust, said: “The work to restore this window has now become urgent, which is why we are asking for an extra helping hand, with everyone who gets involved knowing that by supporting Amazing Glazing, they will also be playing a part in securing the future of Victoria Baths.”

The crowdfunder has so far raised £2,000 of the £10,000 target.

Victoria Baths opened in 1906 in Chorlton-on-Medlock. It was closed in 1993 by Manchester council.
