A YOUNG boy was viciously attacked by a gang of teenagers on his way to lessons.

Great Aleh, 11, who is the librarian at his school, said he was pushed to the ground before being kicked and punched in Oldham town centre. He was left with a broken wrist.

The incident, which is being investigated by police, happened outside Home Bargains on Market Place. Great was with his twin brother at the time.

The youngster said a security guard chased away the attackers before the Oasis Academy student was taken to hospital on Friday, February 1.

Mum Efy Patricia Ijisonuwe said: “These boys were waiting in front of Home Bargains.

“They started fighting him. My other son was in the shop getting food. My boy was on the floor, four were on top of him. They broke his hand.

“They were smashing him, kicking him. It was in a public place, nobody came to help. He was on the floor crying. The security guard from Home Bargains chased them and they ran away.

“I feel so bad, like when you can’t do anything. Imagine my son on the floor with them beating him. “The boys have never fought in their lives. They don’t know how to defend themselves. One twin is injured and the other is afraid to go to school.” Sarah Livesey, principal at Oasis Academy, said: “We were saddened to hear that one of our pupils broke their wrist in an incident in the community. “This matter is being investigated by the police. “As a school with only year 7s and year 8s at present, it is imperative that we take their safety when they are going to and from school very seriously. “That is why we are so appreciative that staff from Home Bargains notified us that one of our children was hurt, and we would also like to acknowledge the members of community who helped this child following what they have said was an unprovoked attack. “We have briefly spoken to the school were the students who allegedly attacked our student are from, and would like to thank them for the work they have said they have done to address this matter internally. “We continue to support the child and his family, and we look forward to welcoming him back to school soon.” A GMP spokeswoman said: “A boy was attacked outside Home Bargains by four youths.”
