Shakers wary of Grecians

-

BURY make the nine-hour round trip to take on Exeter City today hoping to continue their excellent start to 2019.

The Shakers are yet to lose in nine games this calendar year, a run which has seen them consolidate a spot in the automatic promotion places in League Two and also secure a place in the semi-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy.

They take on an Exeter side who are just outside the playoffs on goal difference and have enjoyed back-to-back home wins with victories over Cambridge and MK Dons.

And Bury boss Ryan Lowe is fully aware of the challenge of a trip to St James Park.

“We’re not going to Exeter thinking that it’s a given three points, we’ll have to work hard and stick to the game plan,” Lowe said. “They had a little bit of a dip not long ago but they’re now in good form again.”

Bury have already beaten Exeter this season, triumphing 2-0 back in December at Gigg Lane. Jay O’Shea, the Shakers’ top scorer, finished excellently for the first goal on that day.

He is part of a side that has 62 goals so far in the league this season, more than any other League Two side. And manager Lowe is pleased with how regularly his team are finding the back of the net but stressed the importance of wins over records. “It’s nice that we’re scoring so many goals and that a few of the lads are into double figures, but for us, the most important thing is winning football matches,” he said.
