Beautician Battled with dePression

- By HANNAH DAWSON

A TRAGIC beautician who took her own life following a battle with depression and psychosis ‘religiously’ read up on suicide online before her death, an inquest heard.

Monika Maria Nos, 29, was found hanged in Langworthy Park in Salford, minutes from her flat, in October.

The Polish national, who moved to the UK around 10 years ago, was described as ‘positive, open and happy’ as a coroner investigated her death.

A friend said she didn’t realise the extent of Ms Nos’ anguish as the tragic details of her final months were laid bare at Bolton Coroners’ Court.

Some concerns were raised about her transfer between facilities after she was sectioned months before her death, but assistant coroner Rachel Galloway said it was ‘clear’ Ms Nos was ‘acutely unwell’ and that she was ‘satisfied’ she intended to take her own life.

The inquest earlier heard Ms Nos, who worked at The Leading Edge Hair and Beauty salons in Hyde and Stockport, was sectioned at Stepping Hill Hospital in January last year, suffering with psychosis.

After being transferred to Bradford Cygnet Hospital she was placed on a female psychiatric intensive care unit.

She was then transferred back to Stepping Hill in Stockport.

Ms Nos was discharged on February 15, but admitted to Tameside Hospital on March 18 after expressing suicidal thoughts.

The inquest heard she was discharged in mid-April to go back to Poland with her mother.

Ms Nos returned to Salford in September, a month before her death on October 6.

Police coroners’ officer Nicola Boyle told the court: “From September 10, she had searched suicide religiously. Monika intended on ending her life that night. She was a beautiful, stunning, funny lady.”

Returning a conclusion of suicide, coroner Ms Galloway said: “I am satisfied that she intended to take her own life. It is clear to me Monika had been acutely unwell. Although she made some improvements, she did remain suicidal. I am sure she intended the actions she took.

“I wish to offer my own personal condolences and thanks for family and friends being here.”

Klaudia Kscivczyk, Ms Nos’ cousin, earlier told the hearing: “She was a very open person, very friendly.

“She was always interested in fashion and beauty. I don’t think she had any problems with making relationships, she was good at making friends.”
