United supporter threw missile at his OWN fans

FAN AVOIDS BAN AFTER HE THREW TUBE OF PRINGLES

- By DAMON WILKINSON

A UNITED supporter has apologised after throwing an empty Pringles tube at his own fans.

Joshua Nahim saw red during United’s game against Liverpool at Anfield in December.

During the game, which Liverpool won 3-1, Nahim, of Oldham, was seen throwing the crisp container in away end, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The 22-year-old appeared at Sefton magistrates’ court in Liverpool yesterday, where he narrowly escaped a football banning order.

And after the hearing Nahim, of Briarmere Walk, Chadderton, told the Liverpool Echo that he was sorry for what happened on December 16.

Nahim, who pleaded guilty to a disorder charge, said: “That’s [the sentence] fair enough. I can’t complain.

“My priority was not getting a football banning order.”

Nahim said he followed United at most home and away games.

In court, his solicitor Lorraine Barton said her client acted ‘without thought,’ adding: “It was a stupid thing to do.

“This in a young man who will learn a great deal about today.

“There will be no further acts of the like in the future.”

Judge John McGarva said: “You can say it’s just a paper carton, and it’s no big deal. I have to look at what this behaviour does to other fans.

“Throwing can lead to widespread violence and disorder.

“Because you’ve never been in trouble, I’m not going to make a football banning order.

“Had it been a bottle top or a coin, then you would have been banned.”

Nahim was fined £120 and ordered to pay a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
