County face replay for a place in last four of the FA Trophy

- NON-LEAGUE By ALEX HENDLEY

STOCKPORT County face a replay at Maidstone United after their 1-1 draw in the FA Trophy quarter-final.

Their name is in the hat for the draw for the semi-finals, but Jim Gannon’s men must travel to Kent tomorrow after Matty Warburton’s equaliser cancelled out Jake Cassidy’s opener for the Stones.

While they were in Trophy action, County retained their place level on points with leaders Chorley in the National League North as Ashton United pulled off a shock 1-0 win at the Magpies’ Victory Park.

Matt Regan scored the only goal of the game on the hour mark to reignite the glimmer of hope that the Robins sparked with two wins in January, and they are now three points from safety.

Curzon Ashton were hit for six by Altrincham, who responded to recent poor results with one of the performances of the season.

Joe Piggot notched a hat-trick, after John Johnston had opened the scoring and Sean Williams had put Alty in control at half-time.

Yusifu Ceesay also got his name on the scoresheet.

The Nash have now lost backto-back games, after a sevengame unbeaten run, denting their hopes of a promotion push.

FC United were frustrated with a 0-0 draw at Southport as they piled on the pressure but could not make the breakthrough. They would have closed the gap to safety to five points with a win, but remain seven adrift ahead of a vital game with Hereford.
