MUM KNIFED BOYFRIEND IN ROW OVER AFFAIR
A MUM-OF-THREE knifed her ‘controlling’ partner in the chest during a furious drink and drugfulled bust-up after he told her he had been sleeping with someone else, a court heard.
Zoe Davies had a restraining order against Christopher Pickford after he was convicted of attacking her. But their relationship continued, until the pair got into a massive row one night last summer.
The argument ended in Davies plunging a blade into Mr Pickford’s chest. He was left with ‘life-threatening’ injuries, having suffered an arterial bleed which required major surgery.
Davies, 35, was hauled before the courts, where she pleaded guilty of wounding with intent.
She sobbed in the dock as she was spared jail. Davies, of Cramner Court, Heywood, Rochdale, was handed a two-year suspended sentence at Manchester Crown Court.
The court earlier heard that Davies was at Mr Pickford’s house on July 6, 2018, drinking alcohol and taking cocaine. The pair, who had been together for five years, had the ‘occasional argument’ during the course of the evening.
But, in the early hours of the next morning, they started rowing after Mr Pickford said he had been unfaithful.
When Davies went downstairs into the kitchen, Mr Pickford followed. It was there, in the darkened room, that the mother picked up a knife and stabbed her partner, Huw Edwards, prosecuting, told the court. When paramedics arrived, Davies was desperately tending to Mr Pickford. She admitted stabbing him to the ambulance crew.
Mr Pickford’s injuries were seri- ous, but he made a good recovery.
In his account to the prosecution, he said: “I can’t describe the pain. I [was] told by a doctor that I was close to death. It [was] a huge shock.”
Mr Edwards said: “She said to police ‘I just remember stabbing him and after that just went black; I was just angry’.”
Phillip Boyd, defending, said: “This happened in the midst of a very controlling relationship. She has a history of being involved in domestic violence.” He added: “She was extremely distraught at the scene. She was muttering ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry’, at the time the emergency services arrived.”
Davies must complete 40 intensive rehabilitation activity requirement days. She was also made the subject of a restraining order, preventing her from approaching Mr Pickford.
