Young pleased to shut out Zaha threat

OLE Gunnar Solskjaer has urged Luke Shaw to get forward more often after his superb performanc­e in United’s 3-1 win at Crystal Palace.

Shaw followed up his man-of-thematch performanc­e against Liverpool on Sunday with a more attack-minded display at Selhurst Park, where his adventurou­s run and pass set up Romelu Lukaku for the opening goal in the 33rd minute.

The 23-year-old was named player of the month by United supporters for August and September before he signed a new five-year contract, but Shaw has been more restrained in ASHLEY Young said it was tough to shackle Wilfried Zaha but believes he got the better of the Crystal Palace winger during United’s win at Selhurst Park last night.

When the starting line-ups were confirmed an hour before kick-off it wasn’t clear whether Young or Diogo Dalot would be tasked with marshallin­g the former United player.

It turned out to be Young as Dalot was attack in recent months. Solskjaer said upon his United unveiling he wanted to push the full-backs higher up and believes that is the next step in Shaw’s developmen­t.

“We want him to go forward,” Solskjaer explained.

“That’s the next step for him as well, to trust himself more often in going forward.

“But, then again, it was down to the shape we played today because Anthony wasn’t fit.

“We played Alexis inside more with Rom, and it worked well with Diogo as the wide right and the winger on the other side.” employed further upfield and United’s stand-in skipper was pleased with his performanc­e against Zaha.

“Wilf’s a tough opponent, he always has been with the tricks he’s got,” Young said. “I just had to stay and marshal him well, at times go tight and at times drop off. It wasn’t easy, it was tough, but I’ve stuck to my job and I think in the end I’ve come out on top.” Young scored United’s third goal in South London after Romelu Lukaku had netted the first two and United’s No.18 was delighted to see Lukaku end his seven-and-a-half-week goal drought.

“As strikers you want to be scoring goals and for him to be in the starting line-up and scoring goals is a confidence boost, it’s what he’s in the team to do,” Young added.“I think everybody can chip in with goals even myself getting one today.”
