THE brother of notorious police killer Dale Cregan has been sent to jail for five years after stabbing their sister’s exboyfriend.

Dean Moores, who uses a different surname to his evil sibling, knifed his victim in the street following an argument. But the whole thing, including his getaway, was caught on CCTV, leading police straight to his front door, where the arresting officers also discovered a cannabis farm.

The brothers’ mum Anita told the Sunday Mirror she was devastated to have two sons in jail.

After Moores, 37, was jailed for five years and five months after pleading guilty to Section 18 assault and cultivating cannabis, a detective told how the ‘evidence trail’ led police straight to him, adding his actions ‘were as foolish as they were brutal.’

Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court heard how at about 1.40pm on Wednesday, September 5, last year the 26-year-old victim was walking along Manchester Road, in Castleton, Rochdale, when a Renault Clio pulled into an alleyway nearby.

Moores got out and began arguing with the man, before getting back in the car, which drove off.

CCTV footage then showed Moores go into an alleyway next to a shop, which the victim had just entered. When the man left the shop, Moores emerged from the alley and stabbed him in the thigh.

The victim limped to the nearby Smith’s bakery, where staff wrapped his injuries in tea towels before calling the police.

The brothers’ mum Anita, 61, claimed the attack was not premeditated. She said: “Dean goes fishing often and had his fishing knife with him.

“He’s not walked about with a knife. He pleaded guilty immediately. “Dean’s a family man. He’s really sad that he’s ended up in prison.”

She added: “As a mother, It’s hard enough having one son in prison and now I have another one inside. I am devastated.

Cregan is currently in Strangeways, Manchester, and has been told he will never be released.
