THERE’S a dream job on offer at Old Trafford for cricket fans – and it involves watching matches all day long.

Lancashire Cricket Club is on the hunt for a new stadium announcer – all you need is a good strong voice and an eye for detail.

Oh, and it helps if you know your short fine leg from your silly midoff, and can pick out Michael Vaughan in a line-up.

In other words you don’t have to like cricket. You need to love it.

The successful candidate will be replacing public address announcer Matt Proctor, who is retiring after 27 years.

The job involves announcing team line ups and giving updates during matches.

They will also announce competitions and safety announcements.

In a season which includes seven four-day games, four 50-over matches, seven 20-over games and two women’s super league clashes the successful applicant will be watching a LOT of cricket.

And when a wicket could fall at any time it will take almost superhuman levels of concentration not to miss any key moments of the game.

The role will cover all Lancashire home matches played at Emirates Old Trafford as well as the ‘out grounds’ of Liverpool, Southport and Blackpool.

They will cover match days from April 1 to September 30. According to the club, the new public address announcer must have clear pronunciation, who can transmit their enthusiasm and affiliation to Lancashire.

A good understanding of the game of cricket, both the four-day and one-day format, and ideally Lancashire Cricket is also a requirement along with experience of public speaking.

To apply, email your CV to: humanresources@lancashire cricket.co.uk.

The deadline is Monday, March 11, so you’ll need to get your applications in soon.
