RESIDENTS in a leafy Hale Barns spoke of their shock over Yousef Makki’s death.

It is understood the 17-year-old victim had been visiting a friend on the night of the attack, which happened at around 6.40pm.

Yousef lived in Burnage and police are currently offering support to his family.

Around half a dozen floral tributes were left on a tree close to the scene of the fatal stabbing in the aftermath of the horrific attack. One read ‘Love you bro’.

By yesterday morning, the cordon was lifted along the road, but a police car was parked up in a driveway on Carrwood, a street nearby. Another car was parked up outside the property.

Neighbours living in the Police searching the scene of the tragedy affluent village said they were appalled by the stabbing.

Astrid Hill, who lives just outside the scene, said: “It is shocking, we still can’t get our heads around this.

“We’ve never heard anything like this. I became aware of it at 11pm at night. We looked out and saw police cars. All these guys in white searching in the dark.

“That’s when we became aware of it. We had no idea what was going on, somebody came to the door and told us. I’ve never heard of anything like this around here.”

Margaret Monteiro, who lives nearby, said: “It’s very horrific and very sad. This is just a quiet neighbourh­ood where people go around minding their own business.”

One woman, who didn’t want to be named, added: “This sort of tragedy is all too common. It’s not just gang-related.

“You think ’cos it’s an affluent area it wouldn’t happen, but that doesn’t mean anything. Unfortunat­ely, (knife crime) is on the rise.”
