ALEXIS Sanchez has been ruled out for six to eight weeks with ligament damage in his knee, according to the Chile national team doctor.

Sanchez was forced off in the second half win against Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday adding to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s injury woes.

The Norwegian now has nine players sidelined through injuries and told reporters after the game he believed the Chilean has sustained ligament damage to his knee.

That news was confirmed by the Chile national team doctor Pedro Onate who told Chilean outlet elmercurio he had been in touch with the 30-year-old.

“Yes, we communicate with the player – they take the exams and that (ligament damage) is the injury,” he said.

“No, there will be no problems for him to reach the Cup (Copa America), because he will be between six and eight weeks without playing.

“Alexis may even play again before those deadlines. Also, a lot is missing for the Copa America.

“The distension of the medial ligament is an annoying injury, but not so complex.”

The injury means United will travel to Paris to face Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 tomorrow night with just 15 first-team squad members fully fit.

Anthony Martial, who picked up a groin injury against the French champions three weeks ago, is the only player who has the possibility to return for the clash, but Solskjaer didn’t seem optimistic about his chances.

“I don’t think we can risk it,” Solskjaer said about Martial.

“He has not been training yet, so I don’t think so.”
