Confidence is key as Shaw tips Reds for a Paris victory

- By CHARLOTTE DUNCKER

LUKE Shaw believes his improved form this season has been down to confidence and enjoying his football.

The defender has become a regular starter for United this season and established himself as first choice left-back due to his dominant displays.

He recently had Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah in his pocket in the draw at Old Trafford and impressed again against Crystal Palace where he assisted Romelu Lukaku’s opener.

The Belgian is tipping Shaw to take home the player of the season award in a few weeks for his improved performance but the England international insists he hasn’t done anything in particular to boost his performances.

“It’s hard to try and pinpoint anything that I’ve changed, I haven’t changed anything massively,” Shaw said.

“I think it’s more down to confidence and enjoying myself again, a lot of which is down to the manager and the way he is with me. He’s helped me a lot since he’s come in and I think he’s helped a lot of other players as well.

“We’re very lucky to have this job but to do it day-in, day-out, like any job, you need to enjoy it.

“The more you enjoy it, the more you get out of it, and I think everyone’s showing that at the moment.

“Real positive things are happening and that’s showing on the pitch but also off the pitch. This place is a much better environment. There are lots of positives but I just need to keep going, keep focused and keep enjoying football.” The 23-year-old faces another tough task tomorrow night as he’s sure to be included in United’s starting XI to face Paris SaintGermain in the second leg of the Champions League last 16. United have a mountain to climb as they’re 2-0 down after the first leg, but, Shaw is confident they can pull off a shock result. “The most important thing right now is that, I know we’re 2-0 down, but we’re so positive and so confident within the team. We have to pull off something special, but I feel that we’re capable of it. “I am really positive that we can go there and get a result and get through to the next round.” Luke Shaw
