United fan ‘stabbed in Paris’

- By PAUL BRITTON

A UNITED supporter is reportedly seriously ill in hospital in France after being stabbed following the team’s Champions League victory against Paris Saint-Germain.

There have been unconfirmed reports the man had been in a taxi and was attacked after the driver pulled over.

Sky Sports News claimed the 44-yearold was stabbed in the chest and was undergoing emergency surgery.

The man, who hasn’t been named, was reportedly taken to a high dependency unit at Hopital Europeen Georges-Pompidou, in Paris.

The channel said he was with friends in the taxi singing songs when the driver stopped the car and told them to get out. Sky claimed the Reds fan tried to protect a female friend he was with, but was stabbed with a ‘large blade.’ A Foreign Office spokesman told the M.E.N.: “We are in touch with the French authorities following an incident involving a British man in Paris on March 6 and stand ready to offer assistance if required.” The M.E.N. is attempting to contact police in Paris for details. They have reportedly made an arrest and a suspect is in custody. No further detail about the man’s condition has been revealed.
