Humans are to blame
IT is claimed by D Bagnall that 450 million years ago, before the dinosaurs, there was a much higher concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere, yet there was an ice age (Viewpoints, March 6).
He says that this shows that the vast majority of the world’s climate scientists, governments, political parties, the United Nations and almost everyone else, are wrong about the present global warming being due to human activity in producing CO2.
D Bagnall goes on with his claims that the media, our Tory government, the EU and the United Nations are all conspiring to mislead the people of the world about global warming. In his
previous letter he claimed it was a ‘militant Socialist movement’ plot and that Britain is a George Orwell 1984 police state (Viewpoints February 23).
In that previous letter D Bagnall also misrepresents the conclusions of the court case, Dimmond v the Secretary of State for Education. This concerned a film about the dangers of global warming that the government distributed for showing in schools.
He says the judge agreed that ‘the film had many faults in it and inaccurate claims,’ and that ‘the film could still be shown but with clear explanation of the mistakes and false claims.’
In fact the judge said that the film ‘is substantially founded upon scientific research and fact’ and that the ‘presentation of the causes and likely effects of climate change in the film was broadly accurate.’
He also said that the nine statements in the film described by opponents as ‘errors’ were inaccuracies and that guidance notes accompanying the film should address these statements. Sam Darby, Burnage Green Party
