CORONATION Street legend Sally Metcalfe’s life hangs in the balance when the factory roof collapses next week.

As the staff barricade themselves into Underworld in a dispute with their boss, Carla Connor, Sally and her sister, Gina Seddon, climb onto the scaffolding, clutching homemade banners.

On the unstable roof a row erupts between the sisters, with months of tension spilling out.

Suddenly the roof gives way and Sally screams as she falls before the rest of the roof caves in, burying everyone under rubble.

Sally – who has been played by Sally Dynevor since 1986 – lies unconscious, trapped under the fallen debris, as water from a burst pipe seeps across the floor towards a live power cable.

Her frantic husband Tim, Abi Franklin and Tyrone Dobbs force their way into Underworld to help search for survivors before the emergency services arrive.

Suddenly a loud noise signals the last section of the roof collapsing as debris rains in on protesters trapped inside.

Carla is consumed with guilt, knowing that the roof was unsafe but choosing to ignore it. And, as news of a death inside the factory is delivered, she breaks down.

Sally and Gina have been estranged ever since Gina tried to seduce Tim and pretended they had slept together while her trusting sister was in prison after being framed for fraud, money, laundering and bribery.

Corrie producer Iain MacLeod said previously that, ‘there won’t be a dry eye in the house’ as we say goodbye to one of the Street in the carnage.

The scenes took 21 days to shoot with a stunt coordinator, a stunt double for Sally, a special effects team and fire officers and paramedics on set.
