Byrne signs on for three more years at Giants

- BASKETBALL

MANCHESTER Giants head coach Danny Byrne has signed a new three-year contract with the club.

It will keep the 43-year-old, who is in his second season in the role, at the BBL outfit for the following three seasons.

The move comes in response to a positive campaign for the club, with the team reaching the BBL Trophy and Cup semi-finals and currently in the play-off positions.

Plymouth-born Byrne, who joined the Giants as former player-coach Yorick Williams’ assistant two seasons ago, said: “I’m delighted to be able to put pen to paper and have the security to try to continue the good work we have started this season.

“The club’s plans following the move to our new base at George Carnall Leisure Centre play a part in my decision to commit to the Giants and it is a reflection of the hard work and success we have had so far as a team, as well.”

Giants have 10 league wins so far this season and American signing Willie Clayton has become one of the sensations of the league.

Meanwhile, Williams, 43, who left the club following a difficult season in charge two years ago, has returned in a playing role.

The veteran guard will start his fourth spell at the Giants when they return to BBL action with a home game against Leicester Riders on Sunday (5pm) at George Carnall.
