Man falls to death from road bridge

A MAN has died after falling from a motorway bridge.

Emergency services were called to the M602 near Eccles, Salford, yesterday morning.

Police say the man, who was in his 20s, collided with a grey Renault Clio after falling into the eastbound carriagewa­y at junction 2.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Renault, a man in his 60s, was driving in the left hand lane at the time.

He stopped at the scene and has been helping officers with their enquiries.

The motorway was closed heading towards Manchester for several hours while investigat­ion work was carried out.

Diversions were put in place and the carriagewa­y reopened at around 2.45pm.

GMP are now urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact officers.

Pc Suzanne Keenan, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit (SCIU), said: “This is a truly tragic incident where a man has sadly died as a result of injuries and is understand­ably distressin­g for all those who witnessed what happened.

“Drivers did stop at the scene and have been helping us. While their accounts have been extremely helpful, we’d still urge anyone who might not have spoken to us yet to please come forward.”
