Lindelof can get even better - boss

- By JOE BRAY

UNITED’S Victor Lindelof can become even better than he has shown this season - according to his national team manager.

The defender overcame a difficult start to the campaign to establish himself as a first-choice central defender for the Reds, and has been an ever present under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when fit.

The 2018 Swedish player of the year has been included in Janne Andersson’s latest squad for the first Euro 2020 qualifiers this month against Romania and Norway.

Andersson was asked about Lindelof’s form this season as he announced his squad, and he insisted the 24-year-old has always been capable of the performances that have been central to United’s revival under Solskjaer.

However, Lindelof’s first season at the Reds after his £30m move in 2017 was characterised by injury and inconsistency - something Andersson alluded to when commenting on his latest call-up.

“If you play at Manchester United, you will end up under a magnifying glass,” Andersson said. “I think he has grown one step this year.

“In the national team he has never disappointed me. In all the national matches he has played he’s been good.”

Andersson predicted even more improvement from his star man, saying: “It’s great fun for Vigge, but I’m not surprised that he is developing. I think he has even more in himself. It’s fun for him and for us.”
