City is named 15th best in world

-

MANCHESTER has been named the 15th best city in the world, beating Barcelona, Buenos Aires... and Birmingham.

The list was compiled by Time Out, which surveyed 34,000 city dwellers to rank the 48 best cities in the world.

Manchester snuck into 15th place, ‘thanks to its legendary (and growing) bar and club scene’.

Our city was described as ‘an oasis for party people’, with two thirds of locals praising the nightlife and drinking.

The piece then reads: “But what goes up must come down: residents here have more hangovers than anywhere else. Maybe that explains why two in five Mancs can’t make it through the week without a comforting cup of tea.”

Two in five sounds alarmingly low to us.

Tourism is booming in Manchester, with the number of overseas visitors rising by 10 per cent from 2017 to 2018.

New York City topped Time Out’s list this year for its diverse and accepting vibes, with Melbourne second for the fact it has more live music venues per resident than any other city on Earth.

Chicago ranked third, with ‘dynamic, diverse and creative’ London fourth.

Participants were quizzed on food, drink, culture, nightlife, community, neighbourhoods, overall happiness, affordability, convenience and beauty.

Manchester has also been named a highly desirable travel destination by Lonely Planet and the New York Times.
