‘Bear with us on roadworks’

- By LISA MEAKIN

STOCKPORT’S new link road, built to improve travel for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians between the town centre and the M60 near the Pyramid, is set to partially open this week.

However, town hall bosses warn there may still be some disruption as the finishing touches to the construction works take place.

The aim of the Travis Brow Link Road – a key part of the borough’s £73m Town Centre Access Plan (TCAP) – is to improve travel around town.

As construction work is still ongoing – and will continue over the coming weeks – council chiefs are asking that people ‘bear with them’ until the scheme is completed.

In the meantime, there will be road closures and diversions, all will be signposted. INFORMATION ON THE ROAD CLOSURES AND DIVERSIONS

The new link road is set to open (one lane in each direction) between Travis Brow and the A6, however the council has not given a specific date when this will happen.

Left turn ban from George’s Road to Travis Brow – signed diversion via M60 junction 1 between now and March 26.

The Old Travis Brow closed in both directions under the M6 motorway bridge – signed diversion via new link road, A6 and Leyland Street / Great Egerton Street (inbound) or Heaton Lane (outbound) from April 8.

Bus stops on Travis Brow (adjacent and opposite the ambulance station) are closed until further notice.

After completion, the new road will connect the A6 north of Stockport town centre to the M60 at junction one near Stockport Pyramid.

New pedestrian and cycle routes will also be provided as part of the new road. Coun Kate Butler, head of regeneration, said improvement to the town’s transport infrastructure will make it ‘easier’ to travel into and around the town.

“And, although, the new road will partially open,” she said, “there will still be some disruption before all of the work has been completed.

“We understand that roadworks can be frustrating for everyone, but we appreciate your patience.”
