Four in a row for Ammies

- By WILL MOORCROFT

SALFORD City made it four wins from four in the Vanarama National League with a 1-0 win away at Aldershot Town.

Former United academy midfielder Devonte Redmond scored the only goal of the game just before half-time.

A cross in from the left was met by Gus Mafuta whose blocked shot fell for Redmond to rifle into the bottom corner.

It could have been 2-0 early in the second half after Nathan Pond headed in a corner, but the goal was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper. Ammies keeper Chris Neal then pulled off a tremendous save from an Adam McDonnell free-kick – who was later sent off for a second bookable offence.

Victory moves Salford back up to fourth with eight games to go, and manager Graham Alexander was pleased with the result.

“It’s a brilliant win for us, I thought it was a real tough game today and we knew it was going to be, so we’re delighted to come away with three points and a clean sheet.

“The players worked exceptionally hard and made it hard for Aldershot to break us down so it’s a very good three points for us.

“We had a great following today, the supporters have really done the miles for us this year, supported us all over the country and I’m so glad the boys have sent them home happy again.”

Salford will hope to keep the momentum going when Barnet visit The Peninsula Stadium on Saturday.
