Tragic boy died from stab wound to his chest
STUDENT Yousef Makki died from a stab wound to the chest, a coroner heard.
An inquest into the 17-year-old’s death was opened yesterday.
The A-level student died in hospital after he was stabbed on Gorse Bank Road in Hale Barns, Trafford, on Saturday, March 2.
Home Office pathologist Dr Charles Wilson offered his provisional cause of death as he addressed senior south Manchester coroner Alison Mutch.
Police coroners’ officer Alison Catlow confirmed the initial finding.
She said: “Yousef Makki died at the Manchester Royal Infirmary on Saturday, March 2. “His mother identified him. “His provisional cause of death has been identified by Dr Charles Wilson as a stab wound to the chest.”
The inquest was opened at Stockport Coroners’ Court and adjourned.
A review hearing has been fixed for April 16 ahead of a full hearing on September 12.
Coroner Ms Mutch said: “We’re here today to open the inquest [of] Yousef Makki. His family are not present but they are aware of the opening.
“Yousef Makki was born on September 28, 2001. He died at Manchester Royal Infirmary on March 2. His mother Deborah Makki is a psychiatric nurse. His father Ghaleb is a salesman.
“This is a matter that will need to be adjourned for an inquest. There are ongoing criminal proceedings.”
Hundreds of mourners gathered for Yousef’s funeral last week. His heartbroken family said an ‘empty hole’ had been left ‘inside everyone’s hearts.’
Yousef, described as an ‘incredibly bright young man,’ had dreams of becoming of a heart surgeon.
A teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with Yousef’s murder. He is also accused of possessing a lock knife.
The 17-year-old was released on bail following a hearing at Manchester Crown Court earlier this month.
Another teenager, also 17, has been charged with assisting an offender and possession of a bladed article, namely a lock knife.
The boy, who cannot be named, was also granted bail following a hearing at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.
A trial date for criminal proceedings has been fixed for Tuesday, June 18.
