Rivalry spurs Serg on for Golden Boot
SERGIO Aguero has been in scintillating form this season for Pep Guardiola’s side as they bid to defend their Premier League title.
And while helping his side win the title will be Aguero’s primary target for the season, he also has the potential to capture an individual award – the Premier League’s Golden Boot.
Aguero won the accolade in the 2014/15 campaign, netting 26 goals, however his goals weren’t enough for City to win the league, with Chelsea becoming champions.
Since then Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah have won the Golden Boot, but this year Aguero once again leads the charts.
Surprisingly, Aguero was not named in Argentina’s latest squad for their international friendlies, with manager Lionel Scaloni also omitting Chelsea’s Gonzalo Higuain and Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi from the squad.
But Argentina’s loss is City’s gain, as the Blues can ensure their prolific frontman can avoid any potential injuries on international duty.
And that is vital as, seemingly impossible and at the age of 30, Aguero has got even better this season.
Former City man and fellow Argentinian, Martin Demichelis, believes the arrival of Gabriel Jesus sparked the incredible improvement in Aguero’s game.
“After Gabriel Jesus’ arrival, Sergio has being dealing so well with this healthy rivalry,” he said.
“Day after day we’re enjoying a better version of him which is fantastic not only for City but for Gabriel, too.”
