Carla on the run after Corrie factory disaster

-

FACTORY boss Carla Connor suffers a breakdown and goes on the run after the tragedy at Underworld on Coronation Street. New spoiler photos of Corrie filming the popular character looking drawn and dishevelled as she battles with her mental health.

Carla blames herself for the collapse which killed her half-sister, Kate’s fiancée Rana Habeeb.

Spotted by Robert Preston on his way into a hotel, she appears to be sleeping rough.

Scenes filmed outside the Ainscow Hotel on Trinity Way show Carla huddled up on the pavement and looking haunted as a besuited Robert sits alongside her.

Corrie producer Iain MacLeod previously said the incident at her beloved factory would have an impact on Carla’s mental health.

Alison King plays Carla and Tristan Gemmill plays Robert in the ITV soap, which screened the dramatic death of bride-to-be Rana in the factory collapse on Wednesday.

Carla took over the running of the factory from her half-brother Aidan following his tragic death in May.

Underworld is notorious for strings of bad luck and death, including the demise of founder Mike Baldwin who died after a battle with Alzheimer’s in the arms of rival Ken Barlow on the factory steps.

At the start of Monday’s double bill, a shadowy figure was seen sabotaging the roof.

Viewers are aware that Carla’s plans to outsource the factory stem from the fact she couldn’t afford to pay for roof repairs to keep the building open, despite being warned that it needed replacing.

Next week, her pal Michelle Connor assures everyone that Carla couldn’t have known about the state of the roof and would never have put lives at risk.

As Carla unravels in guilt and grief, she’s taken in for questioning.

Asked how Carla feels when she discovers what has happened at the factory, Alison said previously: “It’s just too much, she sees what has happened and goes into meltdown.

“She totally believes she is responsible for the accident because she didn’t get the roof fixed.”

Carla goes into hiding at the home of her friend Roy Cropper, but then suffers a breakdown after years of devastating events, including being raped by her ex, Frank Foster, and the death of her half-brother Aidan.

Alison says she has carried out research into mental health for the scenes ahead.

“This is just the start of it for Carla. and it will be interesting to see what sort of woman she is when she comes out the other side,” she said.

“She is paying for what happened at the factory whether it was actually her fault or not.”
