POLICE have made two arrests after a man was stabbed.

Officers were called to a complex of flats off Windermere Road on the Langley estate in Middleton at 5am yesterday.

Paramedics also attended and a man was found with ‘stab wounds,’ the force said.

He was taken to hospital but police said his wounds were not believed to be life-threatening.

A man aged 24 and a woman aged 28 were both subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault.

Both of them remained in custody for questioning today.

A police cordon was set-up at the scene and forensic investigators were spotted going into the flats at the centre of the incident.

Residents have spoken of their shock.

One man, who asked not to be named, said: “At about 5am we heard shouting and banging.

“We saw one man who appeared to have been stabbed being carried off in a stretcher and the other guy was in handcuffs.

“He had blood all over him. Another woman was also arrested and put in a police car. She was shouting something.

“We’ve only lived here about a year but nothing like this has happened before. It’s really surprising to see, as our kids play out on the cul-de-sac all the time. It’s hard to explain what happened to them.

“The police came round and asked us to go back into our house when I was having a smoke, this was at about 5.45am.

“The police had torches and they were looking around skips. The forensics team have been and gone. They were here at about 9am taking stuff in and out.”

North West Ambulance Service confirmed two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle attended the scene this morning, and that two people were taken to hospital.

A spokesman said: “It is a police incident. We attended a property on Windermere Road.

“Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle attended at 5.09am.”

In a statement police said: “Police were called shortly before 5am to a report of an assault on Windermere Road, Middleton.
