Tough battle for Centurions

- BY TOM BRAMWELL

BRADFORD are the visitors to the Leigh Sports Village tomorrow afternoon in what is an intriguing Betfred Championship clash.

The Bulls are in eighth position in the league table, but are just one-win behind fifth-placed Leigh.

John Kear’s side ran Widnes Vikings close last weekend at the Halton Stadium, but are without halfback Jordan Lilley through injury.

Gregg McNally – released by Bradford earlier this year to allow him to rejoin Leigh and be closer to his family - is in the 19-man Centurions squad selected by coach John Duffy, who again has Danny Richardson and James Bentley available on dual-registration from St Helens.

Rochdale welcome Widnes to the Crown Oil Arena, looking to bounce back from last week’s 46-6 defeat at Leigh.

Hornets produced a muchimproved second-half performance on that day and will be looking to build on that against a Vikings side that is without star centre Anthony Gelling - he has returned to New Zealand for family reasons and will also miss the upcoming Challenge Cup clash with Oldham.

The Hornets were victorious over Barrow in Round 5 with a 20-8 win.

Swinton make the long trip up to Barrow as they continue to look for their first win of the season.

Stuart Littler will likely have a couple of Wigan players available on dual-reg, but Oliver Partington is serving the suspension he picked up for fighting when the Lions took on Leigh a fortnight ago.

In League 1, Oldham boss Scott Naylor has something of a selection headache for the visit of London Skolars following the impressive Challenge Cup victory over Haydock last time out.

“There’s a lot of competition for places and that’s what a squad is all about,” he said. “The lads who came in for the Haydock tie did a great job and were clearly fighting for their places.

“Team selection is down to me and I’ve some tough decisions to make.

“Skolars are the biggest team in our division. They’re big, strong and athletic, always have been but more so now. ”

Prop Scott Law will make his 250th career appearance if he plays.

Signed from Keighley Cougars in the close season, the 34-year-old has played in each of the Roughyeds’ three Betfred League 1 games and the Coral Challenge Cup tie so far this season.

He was last season’s player of the year at Keighley, for whom he made 210 appearances in a ten-year stay.

He has also played 29 games for Halifax and six for Rochdale Hornets.
