Neymar charged for foul-mouthed rant
UEFA have charged Neymar after the comments he made on social media after United’s win in Paris.
The Brazilian, who missed the game through injury, was investigated after a post on his Instagram page where he questioned the decision to award the Reds an injury-time penalty which Marcus Rashford converted to send Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side through to the quarter-finals.
Match referee Damir Skomina penalised PSG defender Prsenel Kimpembe for a handball in the box after he was adjudged to have handled Diogo Dalot’s shot. After a lengthy VAR review the spot kick was finally awarded.
“They put four people who know nothing about football to watch the VAR slow motion,” the Brazil international posted on his Instagram story. “There is no penalty. How can it be handball when his back is turned. Go **** yourselves ...”
UEFA announced earlier in the month they had opened an investigation over the comments and confirmed in a statement yesterday afternoon that the PSG star had now been charged.
The statement read: “Charges against Paris Saint-Germain player Neymar Junior- Insulting / molesting acts against match official (statements made by the player following the above-mentioned match).
“The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body with the date of the hearing yet to be confirmed.”
