Refreshed Shakers benefit from Gigg wash out

- By DAVE CROWTHER-GREEN

BURY return to action today when they travel to Grimsby.

The Shakers were forced to postpone their game against Cambridge United last weekend due to a waterlogged Gigg Lane, with the rearranged game now set to take place on April 2.

Sides around them in League Two failed to capitalise, as leaders Lincoln and third place Mansfield played out a 1-1 draw on Monday night and MK Dons left it late to grab an equaliser against Stevenage.

It keeps Bury four points clear of the play-off positions and six points behind top spot, now with a game in hand.

Today’s opponents find themselves towards the other end of the table, however, having not won in their last five league games - most recently being held to a goalless draw at home to Northampton on Saturday, leaving them 16th and 10 points off the play-offs.

A brace from Danny Mayor helped Ryan Lowe’s men to a comfortable 4-0 win over the Mariners last time the two met at Gigg Lane in September.

“Straight away our attention turned to Grimsby, we’ve had a good week and they’re refreshed looking forward to the game,” said Lowe.

“We know it’s going to be a tough place to go regardless of where they are [in the league].

“It’s something we’re looking forward to because they’re one of the few teams that try and play good football and play in the right way.”
