Ammies out to close gap at top in promotion race

- NON-LEAGUE By ALEX HENDLEY

SALFORD City’s four-game winning run without conceding a goal has seen them steady their National League promotion ship, and they could move within a point of top spot with a win at home to Barnet today.

The Ammies’ title charge is not in their own hands, but with Leyton Orient out of action on FA Trophy duty, they know that a win would pull at least one of the top three a little closer.

In the National League North, FC United travel to Curzon Ashton knowing a win could draw them level with Guiseley, if the Lions lose at Hereford.

The Rebels would remain in the relegation zone on goal difference, but they will be in good spirits after their outstanding win at Telford United in their last game.

FC United’s Kurt Willoughby, who has 16 goals this season, scored for the England C side on Tuesday night and will be hoping to add to his impressive tally to boost his club’s survival hopes.

Curzon gave a helping hand to FC United last time out, beating relegation rivals Guiseley 1-0, but will be desperate for a win today in order to launch a late push for the play-offs.

Ashton United host Blyth Spartans, who are without a win in four.

The Robins are level on points with FC United and need to start scoring more goals if they are to drag themselves out of trouble – they have failed to net in each of their last three games.
