Fans want meeting with Oldham chief

- By JAMES ROSS

MORE than 150 Oldham Athletic fans showed their frustration towards the club’s owner during a meeting of the Supporters’ Trust.

It’s been a turbulent time for the Latics since Abdallah Lemsagam bought the club in January last year.

They have seen relegation from League One for the first time in 21 years, and four managers have taken the reigns, the most recent being Paul Scholes who quit after 31 days.

That resignation saw some fans demanding action from Lemsagam.

Vice chairman of the Supporters’ Trust, Darren Radcliffe, held the meeting due to mounting displeasure from the stands.

He said: “We were starting to pick up on a lot of dissent from the fans who were looking to act in different ways and we wanted to just try and bring everyone together to form a consensus on how we make our feelings known.

“It’s fair to say they want answers, they want transparency, they don’t want to feel like they are being lied to.”

David Kane, an Oldham fan since 1954, said it’s the lowest the club has been since 1958 when they applied for re-election to the Football League.

He said: “I’m still hopeful, I’m 80 percent sure we are on a downward spiral at the moment.

“The same thing happened at Leyton Orient, they ended up going out of the league, that was partially down to the owner of the club and I can see that happening to us.”

Oldham’s game against Mansfield on April 22 is set to be shown on TV.

“I think going off the meeting today we will probably be looking at some sort of protest that will be televised,” said Kane.

It was agreed during the meeting that the Trust would try to arrange for Lemsagam to come face-to-face with fans.
