Police in new plea over man stabbed in head

-

DETECTIVES investigating after a man was attacked in a town centre have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses.

Thomas Hickey was stabbed in the head and back outside Liquid and Envy nightclub on Waterloo Street, Oldham, in the early hours of March 24 last year.

It’s understood he had just left the venue on Retiro Street when he was punched in the face.

Thomas, now 22, tried to run away from his attackers, but the gang chased him down an alley.

He fell over – shattering his knee in several places – and while he was on the ground a gang of men continued to assault him.

Thomas was stabbed twice in the head and also had puncture wounds to his back. He needed surgery and spent almost two months in hospital recovering.

His dad Martin released images of his injuries, saying his son was ‘lucky to be alive’ after the attack.

A year on, police are appealing again for witnesses and are urging anyone who may be able to help identify the people responsible to get in touch.

Det Insp Joseph Harrop said: “Perhaps witnesses who were reluctant to come forward a year ago, for whatever reason, will now feel able to do so. Thomas was the victim of an extremely nasty attack and the person - or persons who inflicted his wounds clearly intended to cause great harm.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5887 quoting reference number 280 of March 24, 2018, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
