Burger restaurant makes way for cool cafe expansion

-

A West Didsbury cafe bar is expanding into Prestwich with a new venue at the site of the former Solita restaurant.

The burger restaurant off Bury New Road closed its doors, suddenly, in June.

Folk, on Burton Road in West Didsbury, will open a second branch of the cafe bar in Prestwich. An uber-cool, familyfriendly cafe by day, Folk transforms into a cosy drinking den by night.

Justin Parkinson, the man behind Folk, said the new Prestwich bar would ‘sit perfectly’ beside a growing cluster of independent cafes and bars in the village outside Bury.

Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, announced it has negotiated a new freeof-tie lease for the former Solita bar and restaurant.

They said ex-leaseholder Simon Pogson, who operates Solita restaurants among a portfolio of other venues across Greater Manchester, sought a sale to focus on the other sites.

Mr Parkinson said in a statement released by the property advisors: “We are incredibly excited to be opening Folk in Prestwich.

“There is already a growing cluster of great independent bars and eateries in this popular village, and Folk will sit perfectly beside them, helping to make Prestwich a real destination and a great reason not to travel into the city centre for a night out.”

Tom O’Malley, senior business agent who handled the sale, said: “Prestwich is becoming increasingly attractive to a range of hospitality operators who would have previously only considered sites in the city centre or south Manchester.”
