Pep tells pundits: ‘Show us respect’
PEP’S POP AT PUNDITS AFTER CITY FIRE OUT TITLE WARNING
PEP Guardiola has said pundits criticising City for their defeat at Norwich last week lack ‘respect’.
The Blues responded to that setback in sensational style, thrashing Watford 8-0 at the Etihad.
Guardiola’s side came in for stick for that shock result at Carrow Road, but the Blues boss said some of it was unfair and that former players should know better than to draw daggers on his side given what they have achieved recently.
“Pundits, former players, they were there and they lose games and they make mistakes and say without respect for all players out there doing the best,” the City boss said. “We are judged for the result, not the performance. Our performance in the last 400 days was incredible.”
Guardiola was delighted with the reaction of his side over the past week, running in 11 goals without reply in two victories.
“It can happen you lose one game. If you analyse what these guys have done in the last two seasons, it is your problem, not mine,” he said of some of the criticism.
“At Norwich we concede four shots on target and we have 15 or 20. The reaction against Shakhtar and Watford was brilliant.
“Maybe you believe the team cannot lose games – everyone can lose games. They are human beings and make mistakes.
“What we have to do is play the way we have played these two seasons.
“The team ahead of us (Liverpool) is one of the best teams I have seen in my football career as player and manager.”
