EYEWITNESSES have described the shocking moment they found a man fatally injured inside his car.

Officers were called to reports of a man found injured in a car on Greengate, in Glodwick, in the early hours of yesterday.

Police say the car ploughed into a concrete post on the street shortly before 2.30am.

The man inside the vehicle was suffering with serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

He later died as a result of his injuries.

Two young men said they called an ambulance to the street when they saw a woman panicking beside an injured man in a car.

They told the M.E.N: “We called the ambulance at 2.30am.

“I saw his wounds, he was bad. He was losing a lot of blood. He was out cold when we got to him.

“We had to give statements [to police]. It was very upsetting.

“On the phone to the ambulance they said get a defibrillator. There wasn’t any near here.

“We were panicking saying ‘we think he is dead.’”

Yesterday Greengate was cordoned off with police tape while several police vehicles, include a TAU van, could be seen parked at the scene.

Forensic officers could be seen focusing on a Honda Civic parked behind the cordon and combing nearby bushes for clues.

The smash took place opposite Horton Mill Primary School and the office for the Medlock construction firm.

Superintendent Joanne Rawlinson said: “Shortly after 2.30am this morning (Sunday, September 22), police were called by the ambulance service to attend Greengate Street, Oldham, following an incident at that location.

“Upon attendance it was found that a car had collided with a concrete post on the street.

“The driver, who was a man, had suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Sadly the man later died as a result of his injuries.

“GMP officers attended the scene and the circumstances around the man’s death are currently being investigated.”

Any witnesses or anyone with further information can contact GMP on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
