Al: Rash needs to move to make his Marc

- By LIAM CORLESS

MARCUS Rashford has been told by Alan Shearer he needs to improve his movement if he wants to establish himself as United’s first-choice centreforward. The forward has scored just once from open play this season and struggled to make an impact during the Reds’ 2-0 defeat by West Ham on Sunday.

The 21-year-old’s misery was compounded when a thigh problem forced him off 15 minutes into the second half.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said after the match he expects Rashford to be out for a little while as a result of the injury, with United’s other two recognised strikers, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood, face late fitness tests ahead of tomorrow’s Carabao Cup meeting with Rochdale at Old Trafford.

Rashford has lacked a spark for United so far this season and Shearer believes a marked improvement will be required when he returns to action.

“The problem that Man United have got is that 19 games, scored 17 in all competitions, four of them were against Chelsea, and this is the reason why - because no urgency, no spark, no creativity,” Shearer said.

“It’s a nightmare for forwards, they were slow, had too many touches [against West Ham].

“If Rashford wants to play centre forward and he wants to score more goals, which I’m sure he does, he has to do better than this.

“His movement has to be better, he has to move for the ball and attack the ball instead of waiting for the ball.

“I’d be concerned if I was him [Solskjaer], because they’re not creating enough chances.”
