-

CHAT show host James Corden led the birthday messages to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital as it celebrated its 10th anniversary. The presenter of The Late Late Show in America was one of many celebs sending their best wishes to the hospital, which opened in 2009.

“Happy 10th birthday, what an incredible thing,” he said in a video message which was screened at the

Birthday Ball at The Principal hotel in Manchester.

Also sending birthday messages were Take Me Out host Paddy McGuinness, England women’s football manager Phil Neville, Manchester United player Jesse Lingard, TV presenter and broadcaster Fearne Cotton and Elbow frontman Guy Garvey.

“Keep up the good work it’s an amazing charity appeal,” said Phil Neville.

And Jesse Lingard said: “Thank you for all the work you do.” Coronation Street favourites also wished the hospital a happy birthday.

“You know that everyone on Coronation Street think you’re brilliant,” said Jennie McAlpine who plays Fiz Stape.

In the region of £400,000 was raised at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity’s 10th Birthday Ball towards the iMRI scanner appeal.

The appeal aims to raise £5m to purchase state-of-theart intra-operative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (iMRI) equipment to revolutionise surgical care at the hospital.

The ball was attended by Radio Two presenter Sara Cox, from Bolton, Cold Feet actor John Thomson, from Salford, Coronation Street star Antony Cotton and singers Brian McFadden and Keith Duffy who performed on the night as supergroup Boyzlife.

Sara was welcomed back by the RMCH Charity as host after hosting the charity’s first ball in 2009.

Over the past 10 years the hospital has seen 2.2 million admissions and cares for 756 children every day.

One of its patients is Pride of Britain award winner Ella Chadwick who was diagnosed with a rare condition called congenital nephrotic syndrome - which affects proteins in her kidney - when she was eightweeks-old.

Ella, from Rochdale, had both kidneys removed, has undergone more than 40 operations, spent six years on dialysis and had a life-saving kidney transplant operation in 2014 thanks to a donation from her grandma.

The plucky 12-year-old has undergone hundreds of treatments such as injections, antibiotics and infusions. “You give me nasty needles but I still love you,” said Ella in her video message.

Chairman of the fundraising board Maurice Watkins CBE, said: “The night far exceeded our expectations and will remain a monumental moment in the charity’s history.

“Every penny raised will help us ensure Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is at the forefront of paediatric brain surgery, helping to save even more young lives.

“We’re incredibly grateful to every single person who has helped us.”
