OLDHAM DISTILERY OPENS ITS DOORS TO LEARNERS

- By DAISY JACKSON

AGIN distillery in Oldham is opening its doors for a series of gin academies. Visitors can make their very own bottle of the popular spirit. Award-winning Defiance Gin is behind the newest booze-based activity, which will see guests learn all about gin as well as being given the chance to make a batch to take home.

Visitors to the Defiance Distillery in Lees will first be taken on a tour of the distillery, before settling down in the new bar area, where six mini copper stills have been installed.

The three-hour workshops will take place on Saturdays at the Woodend Mill site, and can accommodate up to 20 people at a time (though only six can distill in each session).

Sessions will be led by master distiller and Defiance Gin owner Paul Sheehin and can be booked for corporate events on Thursdays.

On Friday nights, the bar will be open to the public on a ticketed basis.

Tickets, which cost £5 per person, include one drink and will gain ticket-holders entry between 6pm and 10pm.

Visitors to the bar are encouraged to bring along vinyl records to play while ordering drinks from the Defiance Gin range and Flight Club rum range.

The Defiance brand won Young Business of the Year at the Oldham Business Awards earlier this year.

The new opening comes hot on the heels of new city centre distillery and gin school, Three Little Words, which was opened by Manchester Gin earlier this month.
