You can help save the NHS
WITH mayhem reigning in Westminster people may be forgiven for thinking that other things will have to wait.
However some issues (like the climate emergency) are moving forward irrespective of that agenda, though they may take different paths depending on it.
One of these is the continued degradation of the NHS and its exploitation by commercial interests only too willing to cash in on its beloved status and the exploitable vulnerability of those whose loved ones need care.
MPs scurrying back to Westminster may mean the Tory Party Conference next week will be a rather different sort of affair, but with an election in the air and rich pickings to be developed our NHS is – as ever – a topic of corporate interest, Brexit or Bremain.
Keep our NHS Public Greater Manchester is putting on an alternative Conference Fringe meeting on Monday at 7pm in The Marquee, Piccadilly Gardens. I guess not many Tory ministers will be coming along, but it seems none were planning to go outside the security ‘ring of steel’ where they might meet the public anyway.
The meeting’s title – ‘NHS not for sale - We own it’ – reflects the threat to our NHS which would be up for grabs in trade deals after Brexit and under World Trade Organisation rules.
However there are similar threats from ‘corporate courts,’ hidden in EU and other trade deals. Indeed the rip-off price of pharmaceuticals referred to by a recent Viewpoints correspondent is but one example of the milking of healthcare by those more interested in profiteering than healing.
Come and hear how you can play a part in supporting our NHS. The meeting is free to everybody - as our NHS should be! Global Justice Manchester, via email
